Does Eddie Have Many Weaknesses And Weaknesses As A...
Eddie is 2 years and 11 months, he was referred by his health visitor due to the concerns of his parents. They were anxious about his language development, as they reported that ââ¬Å"he does not have many wordsâ⬠and that ââ¬Å"they cannot understand him.â⬠I believe that Eddie has several strengths and weaknesses as a communicator. A strength would be that he has had no significant medical concerns that could have affected his development. Furthermore, he has passed his hearing test therefore there is no possibility that a hearing impairment could be influencing his language development. In addition, Eddie has had no Speech and Language Therapy before, but three of his siblings have. During a play observation for an informal assessment at the nursery, Eddie readily engaged in short sequences of play with a farm scene. This is evidence of small world imaginary play, which involves sophisticated linguistic abilities. The informal assessment also found that Eddie has approximately 10- 20 words mainly nouns but he has shown other word classes. Another positive is that he is willing to imitate sounds, noises and word approximation. However, a possible deterrent of this is that his mother describes his inaccurate word approximations as non-words and this could affect Eddieââ¬â¢s motivation and confidence to communicate. Eddie appears to have unclear and distorted vowels of /a/ for /e/ which is an idiosyncratic and abnormal process of language. Eddieââ¬â¢s receptive language is a strength, he has good single and two-word level comprehension which is evident from the Derbyshire Language Assessment. This task also displayed that Eddie has a good understanding of the prepositions ââ¬Å"in and onâ⬠however he made errors on ââ¬Å"under.â⬠Furthermore, he also displayed a good understanding of the abstract concepts of ââ¬Å"big and littleâ⬠. During World War 1 many new kinds of weapons and technology were invented and improved. Machine guns were the first and most famous weapon used in war, they are claimed to be the most dangerous weapon because the killed numerous lives during the war. Machine guns were invented by the Americans, however the idea was stolen by the Germans. Machine guns at the time could fire up to 500 rounds per minute, but they were very heavy and they were very heavy. They had to be used by well trained men who knew how to setup a gun and operate it quickly. Tanks were armored steel plated, belt tired, and heavily armed combat vehicles. First use of tanks on a battlefield was the use of british mark 1 tank at the battle of flers courcelette in 1915. It had two tanks, one that carried flammable liquid and the other that carried propellant gas. The squeeze of the trigger would send shooting flammable liquid up to 18 meters away, it was a weapon used to shoot big flames of fire against its enemies. It was used to burn soldiers and wooden obstacles such as bunkers. The germans used these flamethrowers to attack more than 650 soldiers, mainly the British and French. Small bombs thrown by hand or shot by a rifle attachment were called grenades/bombs. Germans are the ones who created and mostly used these grenades during war. The British made their own model of a grenade but it needed more work. By the year of 1917 all troops were required to carry extra grenades to capture and hold them against their enemies. Poisonous gas was introduced by the Germans in 1915. It is toxic smoke that can be very deadly if inhaled by humans. When the gas is inhaled it burns and liquidizes your lungs which causes death. If wind currents occurred while soldiers threw the gas at their enemies then it could easily be brought back to them and kill them. The only way to avoid the poisonous gas was to urinated on a cloth and hold up to ur mouth and nose. However over time gas mask kits were provided to the soldiers. Airplanes were very recent they were invented by the wright brothers 11 years ago. Airplanes were simple machines, more like to birds than anything else. The first missions were carried out as observation. Most airplanes at the time were slow/flimsy contraptions with barely enough power to lift a single pilot and perhaps one passenger. Airplanes technology developed throughout war they became very important/useful.In the beginning of the war most soldiers used the planes to spy on their enemies strategies. These planes usually carried a pilot and a photographer who would photograph the soldiers positions. The use of planes became very popular during war, it became a crucial part in achieving victories. One of the first contributions in the war was at the first battle of marne were reconnaissance planes spotted a gap in the german lines. The allies attacked the gap and were able to split the german army and drive them back. Fighter planes came into the war when they wanted to stop the reconnaissance planes. With more planes in the skies, enemy pilots began to fight each other in the air. At first, they tried throwing grenades at each other or shooting with rifles and pistols. It was useless and it didnââ¬â¢t work very well. Pilots soon found out that the best way to shoot down an enemy is to mount a machine gun to the plane. However because the machine gun was mounted to the front of the plane the propeller would get in the way of the bullets. Soon a new invention called the ââ¬Å"interredurâ⬠was invented by anton fokker, it allowed the machine gun to be synchronized with propeller, all planes started using this invention. As the war progressed, both sides began to use airplanes to drop bombs on enemy locations. The first planes used for bombings were made by the russians and could only carry small bombs and they were very powerless to attack from the ground. By the end of the war, faster long range bombers were built that could carry much larger weight bombs.Germany used zeppelins to drop bombs on targets from far away. These were slow moving but could carry a large load of explosives. Zeppelins were filled with hydrogen, so a small spark could blow up the entire aircraft. As the war continued it became useless because of the fast fighter planes that were used.The battles at sea were known as naval battles. These battles mainly took place in the northern sea and the atlantic. Austria-Hungary was a very multi-ethnic country and in the second quote they were claiming that they would defend all Slavic peoples, because they were cousins to them. Germany was very resented with how many colonies France and England had taken over, they felt as though they were getting the ââ¬Å"leftoversâ⬠, which resulted in them feeling humiliated and being angry. All the countries wanted to colonize because colonies were a great source of raw materials and market for goods. Germany wanted an empire, and Germany and Italy got late because at first they were divided into city-states. Later on in the mid-19th century, Germany and Italy, alone united their countries, but unfortunately France and Britain had already colonized many countries. As the chart shows, France had colonized 7 countries and England had colonized 9 countries. Germany was left with 4 counties and Italy was left with 3 countries. In conclusion, the powers that fought the war didnââ¬â¢t really know what the consequences of the war would be. Millions of people ended up dead and wounded because of World War 1. The economic consequence was that the countries were so destroyed that there was starvation. The consequences for the Tsar of Russia and his country were that, he was killed along with his family and there was a socialist revolution. Empires like Austria-Hungary and Germany collapse. There as a legacy for the world from the Armenian massacre, it was the first time that genocide was committed against them. The intellectual cause for the lost generation was that they all loose the will to live and theyââ¬â¢re afraid of another war. The war sew the seeds for another world war, because of the unfair treaty of Versailles, there was a lot of anger and Hitler used it to gain power, eventually leading to World War 2. Being a High School Sophomore Essay Example For Students
Being a High School Sophomore Essay Everyone knows that sophomores can be overconfident in their knowledge, immature, and juvenile. Itââ¬â¢s the time in your high school life where youââ¬â¢re not considered a little freshman anymore but instead an older more mature individual because of your ranking. Rather than being a positive role model to younger classmates, I was instead a sophomoric sophomore at the Dunn School. Every school has that thick, binded handbook with pages filled with boring bolded black writing explaining each and every school rule that one must abide by. Somehow I managed to violate all; from minor rules to major rules and everywhere in between. Dress code is the most frequent rule one can violate. There wasnââ¬â¢t one day where I didnââ¬â¢t have to have my arms straight down my sides to make sure the length of my dress was long enough or that I had to go back to my room to put on a sweater over my 2. 5 inch straps that had to be 3. Rule 1: Dress code and I never got along. This is where it all began. PDA, in other words, public display of affection. Rule number two: broken and as a result, conduct warning. Dating my ex boyfriend for several months of the school year, I always had to be cautious of who was around me, or in my case, not so cautious. Iââ¬â¢m sure I wasnââ¬â¢t the only student who showed affection towards their boyfriend or girlfriend. Iââ¬â¢m not so sure many can say theyââ¬â¢ve had awkward encounters when their L. S teacher and tutor followed them into the Boys Day Lounge. Every couple wants to be alone, but when youââ¬â¢re a student at the Dunn School thereââ¬â¢s no such thing. I thought the barn, Senior Lounge, Boyââ¬â¢s Day Lounge, Loy Lounge, and the field could be a way to escape from constantly being watched by teachers waiting for me to screw up again. It got to the point where my ex and I were not even allowed to sit next to each other under the same roof. I felt trapped, not only for that reason, but in general. Furthermore, I was always getting my phone taken away for something insignificant, like answering my momââ¬â¢s phone call 4 feet away from lower campus or getting campused for not signing out correctly. I felt like I was going to have an emotional breakdown at any minute. I had to leave somehow, and at one point I was campused not for two weeks but for a month. Thatââ¬â¢s when my friend Kelly Whelan and I decided to escape from the Dunn School for at least a couple of hours. Rule three: broken. We decided to jump into a friendââ¬â¢s car and roam around the valley until we had to come back just in time for check-in. It felt like a good idea at the time, but looking back I know we shouldnââ¬â¢t of have put our positions at Dunn on the line like that; however, we didnââ¬â¢t think twice at the moment. There was no other way out. Luckily, I somehow got away with that. Being campused for a month, not only did I feel like there was no way out, but also I was constantly bored. Everyday was the same old routine. No excitement whatsoever took place at the Dunn School. So I had to somehow create my own ââ¬Å"fun. â⬠I enjoyed smoking marijuana from time to time, but I never would of thought of myself to be smoking cigarettes. Unfortunately, I started to do the one thing I promised myself I wouldnââ¬â¢t. Smoking Violation: Rule number 4, broken. It was around 2 am in Loy dorm; everything was silent in the hallways. I slowly snuck down to room number 4, where my very good friend Audrey lived. When we were together, we were reckless. We thought that we could get away with anything; however, we were proven wrong when all of a sudden we saw a flash of light reflect of our faces coming from outside. The rest of the night I couldnââ¬â¢t fall asleep, instead I laid there thinking about what will happen when I would inevitably hear Ms. Childs call my name at assembly the next day. I didnââ¬â¢t sleep much that night. A letter was sent home, and I had to walk ten campus loops in a certain amount of time. Campus loops were not too much of a punishment to me. The letter home was much worst. My parents werenââ¬â¢t too thrilled with me that Christmas break. Last March, I was already on final conduct warning for my many talks with teachers about dress code violations, PDA with my boyfriend at the time, and my smoking violation. I was having chats with Mr. Holmes and Childs regularly about my behavior, but I just didnââ¬â¢t seem to care. I just missed being with my best friends since elementary school, my home and my family. When I was here, I felt like I was grounded constantly. Then the weekend after spring break, things started to sound exciting when Amanda brought a bottle of vodka from home to the Dunn community; obviously she didnââ¬â¢t consider that she was violating a major school rule. Rule 5: broken. Once she told Audrey, Kelsey, and I about the alcohol, we all decided it would be fun to take shots in the room and then run around like hooligans to pass time. It was around 7pm, and we were taking shots by the minute. Needless to say, some of us got a little out of control. Two of the girls were causing a scene in the lounge, another got sick, and I was in my room on the phone having a drunken conversation with a friend from home. All of a sudden I heard the ODââ¬â¢s walkie-talkie constantly repeating our names. I didnââ¬â¢t think too much at the moment; however, I knew it wasnââ¬â¢t good. Suddenly Mr. Bowden busted the door open and took me to the boring, boxy, white rooms along the side of the Earwig Cafà ©. There I found, Audrey, Kelsey, and Amanda all bawling. I knew it would have just made the whole situation worse if I started to break down too, so instead I kept my head up and tried to act as mature as I could. Little did I know, that in the meantime they strip-searched my room, finding weed at the bottom of my purse and paraphernalia. The next day was filled with tears, packing up my belongings, saying good-bye to close friends, and dealing with my parents yelling at me for the five-hour car drive home. I thought my life at Dunn was over. Surprisingly, three days later, the school called me and we had a very long chat about whether or not I should still attend. Although I was getting in trouble for my actions almost every day, something inside me just didnââ¬â¢t care. However, that seemed to change after getting almost expelled from my school. I knew I had to change the way I presented myself and acted. I couldnââ¬â¢t be this rebellious sophomore anymore, but instead needed to make better decisions. Last year, was a mess, but part of me doesnââ¬â¢t regret a thing. I went through such a dramatic year losing three of my closest friends due to what I immaturely perceived to be a little fun, but what clearly represented bad judgment. I also lost two other close friends because they simply werenââ¬â¢t happy here, but I still managed to keep my head up. I was the only one that was accepted back and was given another chance to shape up. It wasnââ¬â¢t easy dealing with my suspension during the week I was suspended.
